When I say I’m the Design Lead for WordCamp Philippines 2026, what I really mean is that I get to shape the first thing you’ll feel before you ever walk through the doors of the Iloilo Convention Center. The look of the site, the flyers, the badge in your hand, the little moments of “oh, this is nice.” That’s the work, and I love every part of it.

This year, the community gathers in Iloilo City on August 28–29, 2026, for two days of learning, contributing, and connecting. Day one is Contributor Day, where we give back to the open web together. Day two is the conference itself, packed with sessions on Gutenberg, AI, accessibility, and growing a WordPress business. More than 500 of us, developers, designers, marketers, content creators, freelancers, students, all in one room. Being the person who gets to design how that feels is a real honour.

Where design meets belonging

I’m a WordPress designer and developer, and what pulls me back to this work again and again is blending aesthetics with functionality. A thing can be beautiful, but if it doesn’t work for people, it isn’t finished. That belief matters even more at an event like this, where the whole point is that everyone feels welcome.

As a queer person in tech, inclusivity isn’t a talking point for me. It’s the lens I design through. I want the person who’s never been to a WordCamp, the student who isn’t sure they belong, and the seasoned contributor to all feel like this space was made with them in mind. Outside of WordCamp, I volunteer to teach out-of-school youth web and graphic design, because I’ve seen how a single skill can become a livelihood. Helping people create, and earn from what they make, is close to my heart.

The structured creativity behind the pixels

Here’s something people don’t always expect: I have dyslexia, and I also love math. That love led me to a graduate degree in Information Technology and to research in Geometric Deep Learning. I know that sounds far from flyers and colour palettes, but to me they’re the same instinct. Geometry is creative design. Design is structured creativity. Every project I take on carries a bit of both: the freedom to imagine and the discipline to make it hold together.

That’s the spirit I’m bringing to WordCamp Philippines 2026, a digital and physical experience that’s a little more beautiful, and a lot more inclusive, for everyone who shows up.
